Gr2IT SEL Program

Gr2IT SEL is typically taught in the homeroom, advisory, or study hall block but can be taught in any class period that works for your school. Gr2IT SEL consists of 10 short but effective research-informed lessons. Each lesson is based on one of the 10 program principles and is approximately 10-15 minutes in length. Lessons include learning objectives that correspond to Bloom’s taxonomy. Lessons can be modified as desired by a Gr2IT instructor. In addition to learning objectives, each lesson also includes a short presentation slide deck, discussion questions, multiple activities, and a quick reference chart. The reference chart lists the principle, grade level(s), learning objectives, SEL CASEL competency, ASCA competency, and Restorative Practices Competency for that lesson. As such, instructors can teach the same lesson principle multiple times with different options. An important consideration is to keep the lessons short. Lessons also include additional research or readings for the instructor. Activities are added and updated regularly at no additional cost to licensed schools.

  • You’re a trained professional, and we trust you to modify or organize the curriculum in the way that best suits your needs and the needs of your students. However, we have included some basic directions so that you can see how the program was envisioned and created for use.

The Standards Table presents important information about the lesson, including learning objectives and CASEL, ASCA, and Restorative Practices competencies met in the lesson. The Instructor Outline provides additional information for the instructor, similar to a teaching script. The slides are permitted for use to present in the classroom or upload on the student learning platform. Several activities are provided. Instructors should review and choose which activities they want to use. We recommend using 1-2 activities per lesson. Several options are offered to keep the content fresh and interesting. All activities can be completed in a matter of minutes, though many have options to extend the activities for longer periods of time. Additionally, the curriculum is suited for grades 3-8. As such, some activities are best suited for the younger grades while others are more advanced. Lastly, the Xcross Curriculum activity is meant to be an extended activity that can be used in another subject area if desired.

After reading through the materials and deciding which of the activities you want to use, we recommend:

    • Starting with the slides, integrating discussion or questions as you present.

    • Working with the students to complete 1-2 of the activities provided.

    • Finishing with a quick “take home” statement about how the activity/activities demonstrated the principle.

    OR FLIP IT

    • Starting with one of the shorter activities provided (The Across the Curriculum activity should not be used before the lesson).

    • Asking students what they know, their definition or description of the principle.

    • Going through the slides, integrating discussion.

    • Completing another of the activities provided, time permitting.

    • Finishing with a quick “take home” statement about how the activity/activities demonstrated the principle.
